The Marfolk go by a couple other names, such as Pisceians, or Duabyssians.
The Marfolk were a result of the primordial demons [first sapient people-species created by Synthia] who left the underworld and began living by shores of various habitable planets, as some would be more and more drawn to the water they evolved to be the Marfolk.
They also have a very large civilization on New Neptune, or as they call it, Poseidon, as the “new solar system” uses the Greek versions to differentiate this clone from the OLD solar system of the humans.
Due to their demon heritage, they can purr to express positive emotions and stimulate their ability to heal, and may exhibit other catlike behavior.
Marfolk can either have legs or a fishtail replacing their legs [similar to traditionally depicted mermaids/mermen, but with fish heads], this allows even greater water mobility but less land mobility. Many Marfolk may take after a specific aquatic creature in appearance and ability depending on their planet of origin and the other aquatic creatures in that environment.
Marfolk who lack a fin at the top of their head may use a sort of symbiotic anemone to mimic hair.
Tattoos are very culturally significant to Marfolk and their identities. As well as being the most promiscuous peoples, attributed to their demon heritage and being slippery. They notoriously love to seduce sailors.
This is how they got certain human genes, astigmatism, so some can be seen with prescription goggles.

Marfolk are spread out on multiple planets, but most notably human planets, both old earth and new earth [Gaia], and their habit of boning sailors introduced this gene, and this gene, though rare would pop up all throughout different places the Marfolk reside, because they of course tend to travel, and shag eachother a lot too!
New Neptune has like little to no islands, I imagine, so it would be habitable mainly to aquatic beings.
(The clone solar system's planets are very different from the original one)
