birdtober challenge kept me busy all last month, so I'm only now getting back to learning Blender
my first 3dmodel!! colors of the dragon were completely random; I just wanted to finish this piece.
quick disclaimer: I haven't learned retopology yet, so the mesh is really bad (it's all so complicated!). that's why this model can't be used for animation or anything like that. however I did learn how to do basic coloring and rendering.
I realize now that I chose a way too detailed model for my first try. I got stuck for a long time and became intimidated by the thought of working with the mesh (polygons). I plan to study those topics later, starting with simpler projects, which I'll be working on soon.

what do you think of all this?

Yes, retopology is changing the mesh's verticies, edges, and faces to work better for some purpose. I mostly use retopology to populate an area with sparce verticies while sculpting. There are others like triangles to quads to make loop operations easier and many many other techniques and algorithims.
UV mapping is the process of mapping 3D coordantes to 2D coordantes for things like texturing. Like retopology, there are many many ways to do it but the industry standard at the moment is to make seams to cut up the model's "skin" using seams to reduce texture stretching then unwrap it using a simple 2D projection method. It's very time consuming but has the best results.
Right now I know these things on a fundamental level but my sculpting ability is lacking to do it on my own models.
