Kha'Eshan Bestiary: Grand Stridilus
You know which place I've neglected for a long time? The Cave Punk setting, Kha'eshan. Let's fix that, pay a visit to Tei'Roa, and see what creature she finds this time!
The Grand Stridilus is a giant, herbivorous reptile, descended from the minuscule Picondilus. This solitary herbivore resides in more arid areas with sparse vegetation (a place where larger mammals would struggle to survive), and spends its days wandering between the several small oasis scattered across the desert. Once it finds a place with enough food and water it will eat as much leaves and fruits it can, all to build up a storage of fat that will keep it alive until it finds another patch of greenery.
Males are about 10% larger than females and can be quite aggressive if their search for food is actively interrupted. Their aggression surfaces also when two males meet. These encounters always end in a brutal fight for dominance. The tough, blunt spikes on the Stridilus's shoulders serve as both a form of defense, but also as a potent weapon. Combative males will shoulder-tackle each other until one of them shows submission, runs away, or dies in combat from all the blunt-force trauma.
People who travel through the dry lands are advised to stay clear of this species as to not invoke its ire by accident.
(the only reason Tei'Roa is standing next to one here is for the sake of size comparison)
