Two-headed storm eagle - Feathers of friendship
Single-headed storm birds are already rare. Two-headed storm birds are even rarer. However, the symbol of the double-headed eagle is found in several cultures, mainly Slavic ones.
However, as the sociology of mortals is not the subject of this grimoire, let us return to the double-headed storm eagle.
This avian creature is large, reaching half the size of a human-like mortal. It has several features that classify it as a bird of prey: sharp talons and a downward-pointing beak, among other things. Its cry is like thunder: either resembling the dull crack of a distant storm or a deafening scream like lightning striking nearby. This bird is capable of flying fearlessly in the midst of a storm, as lightning does it no harm. It even has the ability to partially control electricity, which is part of its hunting techniques.
Two feathers are required to create a new specimen. It is preferable that these feathers come from a storm eagle specimen, but eagle or bald eagle feathers may also be suitable with a few additional enchantments to mimic the natural individuals' ability to control electricity. The feathers trigger the metamorphic effect once they are held by two separate individuals, as shown in the illustration.
When the new eagle is created, it retains some of the personalities of the mortals that compose it, which can result in certain problems such as difficulty feeding if one of the heads is too dominant over the other. Individuals who already have a stable social bond are preferred so that the fusion and transformation go as smoothly as possible. It should be noted that, even though the bird of prey has a form of intelligence, it no longer has humanity.

This is neither kindness nor wickedness. It is simply one practical example among many others in this grimoire, whose moral is merely a parameter that, most of the time, is not taken into account for the smooth running of the experiment.
However, on a more personal level, I cannot deny that seeing fewer human beings brings a sense of peace to my existence.
But that is a personal digression that has nothing to do with the page illustrated above.
Indeed, once the transformation is complete, the animal cannot return to its human form.
The alchemical elements available in the Manor do not allow for such a regression either, as they are not powerful enough to override the magic of the feathers.
It must therefore be an external will that casts a spell of metamorphosis and dissociation, or a deity that performs a miracle. However, even if the bird were separated into two human bodies, this would not restore the humanity and intelligence of these mortals. They would therefore have to be taught the mechanisms of humans, their behavior in society, language, etc.
As stated in the description, their personalities would be identical... But living in two separate bodies could cause multiple problems for this former bird, including difficulty in having its two bodies too far apart from each other, difficulties to walk or move...

This is a comment that is difficult to respond to, as it does not really contain a visible or even implied question.
However... This comment raises a question, based on the little information gathered about its author.
Is this established fact, that you exchanged many feathers with various people who had no effect of transformation, emphasized in a positive or negative way?
Note that an unexpected transformation can be considered either positive or negative depending on the point of view of the entity undergoing it.
So perhaps it would be more relevant to ask whether this reaction is a relief that none or this happened to you and your friends... or a disappointment ?

A bit of both, I suppose. Personally, perhaps unsurprisingly, I wouldn't mind... I would find it fascinating and nice *ahem* perhaps desirable, even... At least as long as my mind is still able to support such thoughts were I to go through something like this. But I also wouldn't want to accidentally turn a friend into an avian merged with myself unwittingly - not knowing whether they'd find it... acceptable. And then of course there is the question one can impose on themselves about whether it might be nicer to instead learn about and how to perform this kind of transformative magic on themselves and friends. That way it would be possible to experience many different forms and states of mind. If one were to simply become this avian, then learning about such magic and performing it willingly and in a controlled manner would likely be impossible due to "birdbrain", hah! Or am I wrong?
Just as it was erroneous to talk about positive or negative in the first question, it would be inappropriate to decide whether you are right or wrong.
Both possibilities exist. They are neither good nor bad. Only your point of view will give more value to one or the other, given that you are the only person involved in this thought exercise.

An excellent question, LordUrist.
The feathers activate when held or worn against the skin of two entities in close proximity to each other.
Picking up one of the feathers with a glove, wearing it on clothing without skin contact, or standing a few steps away (between 1.5m or 4.9 feet) may be enough to avoid triggering the effect.
However, skin contact at close range causes involuntary movements toward the other feather wearer, until physical contact begins the fusion. Clothing is dissolved during the process.
Even if the two humans had taken every precaution beforehand, it would not have extinguished the magic of the feathers. They may activate later, at a time when the humans fulfill the conditions for fusion and metamorphosis.
