One of my cats, Dart, caught a bird today. Looks like she's graduated from sparrows and baby starlings to Red Shafted Northern Flickers, which is a tree clinging bird like a woodpecker. This guy was pretty big. Thankfully he was still alive and in one piece. He just had a some missing feathers and a slight limp. I really couldn't do anything to help him so I took him outside and placed him on the trunk of a tree in the backyard. He awkwardly scampered up it up it and was gone. I really hope his leg gets better...
I did get a picture of him because he was a pretty cool little bird. He would perch on my arm and shimmy up and down it or just sit in my hand. I figured he wouldn't mind the flash of the camera so I snapped a quick photo. He was really curious about the beeps and whirl sound my camera made and kept pecking it.

lol. Cute bird. I'm surprised the guy wasn't afraid of you. But it's a good thing or he may have hurt himself further. And that wouldn't have been a good thing. I've always wanted to have a bird....eventually. Perhaps one of the most inspiring birds I would love to have is an African gray parrot. They are truly amazing birds.
I was surprised as well. I thought he would act more wild then he did but maybe he was still shaken up from the cat nabbing him.
I have two birds of my own. Two cute little cocktiels that I love to death. (That reminds me have a photos of them that I could post.)
African grey parrots are lovely birds! They're so smart. If I ever get a larger bird it will be either an African grey or a macaw. Cockatoos are nice but I believe they need much more attention then a macaw does. I think African greys are the same...hm. I need to do more research on that.

Well, even if an african grey doesn't need the most attention, I bet you would want to. :p They're very intelligent creatures. I swear I have just about heard a conversation go on with a person and one of those birds. hehe. They can learn a huge vocabulary. But they are also very expensive birds.
Looks like a woodpecker of some kind. You might be able to find out what kind it is if you get one of those audobon bird books. Woodpeckers tend to be brave little birds too, it's so cool it was friendly! Maybe it will come back and say thanks form time to time.
