Mufasa and Kiara, rescued lions that now live at the Conservators' Center. He's an elderly male (late teens, early twenties) and she's a middle-aged female, one of three girls in his pride. Even though they're well-cared for now, you can still see the scar tissue on their faces from their former home. You can also see it's spring shedding season! Not the most beautiful portrait, but all the loose fur makes it very REAL to me.

Yes, if I'd suffered what they have, I'd never trust humans ever again. The photos of his arrival at the Center are truly horrifying -- starved bony, bloody scars all over his face and elsewhere, truly unhappy. Now he's a beautiful old gentleman, taking care of his lion business, and usually happy to stop and greet his people, too, with a rub against the fence. And Kiara's our best soccer player! She loves chasing a ball around her enclosure.
