Blaze (2018-2026)
(I lost my rescue beardie Blaze this evening, unexpected but expected)
You were so loved my sweet boy. 3.5 years out of your 8 was not long enough. I'm so sorry life was so bad for you at the start. But I hope I made you feel safe.
Blaze had pretty bad issues from lack of proper care. When I got him, I don't believe he's had greens before, or had his stuff properly dusted with calcium and minerals, he'd certainly never had flowers! He had no UVB when I got him and I'm assuming he hadn't had any for a long time if ever. He couldn't move great because of the MBD he suffered with. He moved, but it was clunky and slow. Chewing/swallowing was always an issue, he could never drink from the bathtub like Citrine can, he'd choke and I'd have to essentially work the water out of him and hold him forward, so he just got misted/damp greens cut or tore smaller than Citrines. He also had issues with severely clogged enlarged pores and I had to rub oils on them and bathe him regularly to soften them to where they wouldn't have abcesses. He also had stuck skin, and incredibly bad digestive issues and constipation that plagued him throughout the remainder of his life.
I always wanted to upgrade him to a 120g like Citrine (my other bearded dragon I've raised since a baby) was in but he could barely traverse the 40 breeder he was in. He spent most of his days clinging to his hammock frying his little brain cells with the heat lamp, laying upon his log, and bobbing his head when Citrine squared up during breeding months. But he was such a gentle creature. The people who had him (bad people imo, not just let care but just in general bad people) before wanted to get rid of him because he was "aggressive and tail whipped"....
He never, not ever, lunged at me. Tail whipped. Or bit. He was the most gentle tempered creature.
I will miss him deeply. Citrine was showed him mostly because he came to the glass and was mad I was removing Blazes tank (because I can't bare to look at it dark and empty), and he seemed to understand that his long time foe was finally dead. He seemed content and proud, like he was the one to vanquish him... To the point he let me pet his beard through sobs to celebrate his foes demise (his lizard words not mine).
Blaze was a good lizard. He did not deserve the life he was dealt and I'm sorry I couldn't do more for him because the damage had been done.
For the record Citrine is absolutely fine, he was running around and acting like his usual chaotic self. He got a late dinner. Blaze will be deeply missed. Sweetest little sunshine lizard I ever had the pleasure of housing for as long as his body allowed.

I'll miss him but he had so many problems too. I'm glad he's not suffering anymore.
My other boy Citrine is doing great, he's 5, almost 6 (born mid 2020).
My pacman Cheese is doing good too he has a bit of an edema issue because of his morph, but he's still great. He's 5 (born mid 2021).
I regret getting exotics solely because of the lack of specialized veterinary care available for them where I'm at most everything I have to do on my own and treat as best I can if the vet can't help. I will probably not get another exotic unless I can find a vet that specializes in them in the future that aren't 2hrs away.

Its difficult to find specialists for reptiles in my own town, too. Its why I haven't tried raising beardies again.
My boy, Kato, lived to 9 and he was a rescue as well.
It painful he passed but I know he had his own problems.
Uther lived only 2 yrs and he was my first baby. I fell in love with beardie's after him.
Same, I won't be getting another exotic for a long time. I have 3 cats who were rescues and they take up a lot of my life now XD

It's never easy. But I hope he knew he was loved. He started developing small tremors from the MBD the last few months so I knew he was getting worse. But he really only stopped being himself the last few weeks. I thought maybe he was bouncing back last week, but now I'm realizing it was that spurt of energy before a passing. I miss him. My living room is so much darker now without his tank on in the evening.
