Though nothing will ever beat the classic SNES version, if you play the Nintendo DS version, they actually do survive. Well, a small group of them, anyways.

I did ! I wish I still had it though- I didn't get to beat Lavos with Magus to get that other DS extra T_T

Nono, also in the SNES one, that's the only copy I played, the area you leave the sun stone in i think, hmm.

Yeah, pretty darn sure there's a special island you can leave the moon stone/dark stone whatever thingy in the cave end to stash it n come back in a thousand years and collect it as the charged up sun stone...and there were dinos around. My memory may be bad, but I remember surviving dinos.
