The first track I've ever put out. Working on an EP that'll feature this.
Huge thanks to
miyabisan (http://soundcloud.com/sneppid) for his production work and support, and to all of the incredible MCs who've inspired me over the years.
==Lyrics==
This dying trust, surroundin' us,
Ya know it's just a symptom,
A world full of wonder,
Defiled by the systems
We put in place,
We've put our faith,
In governments and visions,
Turned never-ending torrent of oppression and convictions.
A life where distinction's determined by wealth,
And budgets cut deep into national health.
'cause if the postcode lottery leaves you sat on the shelf,
Then I'm sorry mate, you're gonna have to fend for yourself.
Pounds saved, lives lost,
High cost, why not,
Try to pretend politicians give a fuckin' toss?
Relentlessly clawed back,
Pounds, pennies, more tax
Snatched by the hollow banks,
Wasted on building tanks.
Take all that cash and rebuild this society,
Defuse the notoriety,
You've earned through ambivalence,
To those without hope,
Denied their equivalence.
Surprised when the spawn of this poverty turn miscreant,
But some, they survive,
Search out peace,
Strive for betterment.
So find it,
Look around,
Meditate on your mind set.
Contemplate, concentrate,
Unconfine it.
Now let your soul fly free,
Don't be blinded,
To the beauty that surrounds,
All your life's stress.
'cause all it takes is a little bit of kindness,
Take a moment out to revel in the fineness,
Of this fine mess of chaos that defines us.
I don't,
See life as a series of chores,
And as a pacifist, I choose not to view it as war,
But that outlook's so pervasive, man
I've seen it before.
Where immediate hostility precludes a rapport.
And so these blood-thirsty wolves get to bay at our doors.
Every weekend, run in packs,
They're stainin' pavements with gore.
Aftermath of two-for-one,
But for that dude on the floor?
It's more like six on fuckin' one,
Another ambulance call.
Mate, unclench those fists.
Release pent-up tension,
Use other methods,
To channel aggression.
Let go of rage,
Step through that red mist,
Realise we're all just fuckin' people tryin' hard to live.
Lives where it feels like we've got little relevance,
'cause sometimes it's hard, some will stumble, show benevolence.
Communicate, collaborate, construct, display intelligence,
'cause empathy, is meant to be, a whole lot more in evidence.
So find it,
Look around,
Meditate on your mind set.
Contemplate, concentrate,
Unconfine it.
Let your soul fly free,
Don't be blinded,
To the beauty that surrounds,
All your life's stress.
'cause all it takes is a little bit of kindness,
Take a moment out to revel in the fineness,
Of this fine mess of chaos that defines us.
Ya see,
A little perspective, man, it goes a long way,
When minutiae it conspires to ruin your day,
How the smallest of things, they can so heavily weigh,
On our shoulders, the load, it just leads to dismay.
But our first-world privilege should really allay,
Most fears and concerns, what I'm trying to say,
Is realise you've blessings to count when life seems darkest,
Never let your worries consume,
Just try to harness,
The good things ya see,
Let 'em drive you along,
Find a passion, get an outlet,
Fuck it, light up a bong.
Place trust in your friends,
Always value those bonds,
And if you ever start forgetting them,
Just play this song.
Yeah, so find it,
Look around,
Meditate on your mind set.
Contemplate, concentrate,
Unconfine it.
Let your soul fly free,
Don't be blinded,
To the beauty that surrounds,
All your life's stress.
'cause all it takes is a little bit of kindness,
Just take a moment out to revel in the fineness,
Of this fine mess of chaos that defines us.
It's all just a ride, a wise man once said,
And though that can be hard to believe,
Don't be subject.
Object,
When you're being confronted with bullshit,
Don't be scared by the media's lies,
Show some true grit.
I will spit,
Until I get my message across,
There's more to life than starting fights with everybody you cross,
There's more to life than sittin' worrying 'bout your pensions and stocks,
There's more to life than stagnating, letting pop culture wash,
Away your, identity until you're someone you're not.
A mass-produced, conformist package shaped by unseen gods.
Because there's beauty in this world that doesn't come at a cost.
Learn to see it and together, we can hold back its loss.
Yeah so, find it,
Look around,
Meditate on your mind set.
Contemplate, concentrate,
Unconfine it.

I don't see the point in writing anything that hasn't got some meaning beyond it, unless it's just for the fun of wordplay. Bragging about how awesome your hugely priveleged life is, or how much gaudy bling bullshit you've acquired isn't worthy of time or effort, as far as I'm concerned.
I have quite a bassy voice normally, so I know that 'yabi EQd some of that out in places, maybe it left bits of the track sounding a little top-heavy? If you can point out some timecodes where you think it's most apparent, I'd appreciate it! Feedback helps me make better tunes. :)
Since I know people often have trouble following lyrics in hip-hop (although I don't, I'm lyrically obsessed and often find that's really all I hear of tracks when they're played to me), I thought it was important to stick the lyric sheet up. Makes sure that I can convey the message I want to with some clarity.
This was made in Reason, Logic and 'yabis bedroom. >:3
p.s. I think I'mma follow my own advice too now I'm home from work ^.^

I enjoyed this, a lot. Not something I'll put on repeat, but it's def going in my playlist. The only real thing I think needs works is the quality, and by that I mean work on pronunciation a bit, or smoothing out your accent. You've got a nice, natural flow under that accent that needs to be brought out and given more prominence. But for your first post, this was exceptional, from the lyrics to delivery, other than what I mentioned.
Thanks man! I'm glad you enjoyed the track, shame you're not feeling the accent so much, but I think a lot of it is in pronunciation like you say more than anything. Years of spitting along to others tunes in my room has taught me my foundations, I'm just beginning to work on my own style now.
I'm never really going to give up the accent, I don't affect a voice when I flow, I find that I want to put as much of myself out there in my rhyme as possible, and how I talk is a huge part of where my patterns and rhythm come from.
I seriously appreciate the compliments though, dude. Just this minute finished the second track I'm going to lay down which is a little more rapid and lyrically dexterous than this, so I'm looking to forward to seeing how it comes out!
Thanks for taking the time out to comment, man. I look forward to hearing more of your stuff too!
Peace!

Don't kick the accent, it's fine. Just work on smoothing it out. I think part of it was how this song flowed, how it made you flow, but under the accent there was a part of your voice that was giving way to some really nice transitions between lines, but in some places the accent killed it.
Good track man, really good for a first track. Pretty much the same thing that Nyisi is saying, pronunciation, and I tell everybody starting to record their rhymes this: "Can everybody understand all the words?" And this has nothing to do with accents, because even a lot of emcees here leave me saying "What did he say?" but I think you will be able to refine your delivery as you continue to work on songs, just be sure to be objective about your work.
Good stuff man, I'm looking forward to more.

Thanks for the kind words, +fav and watch, dude!
I totally see what the both of you are saying about my pronunciation and clarity. The track I finished writing last night is a lot more lyrically and rhythmically playful, so it's going to be challenging to deliver it with the fidelity I want to, but if I don't keep challenging myself, I'll never improve.
Can't seem to stop writing at the moment, so you'll be hearing more from me real soon. It'd be wicked if you could add me to the line-up on the hiphophedz group, can post my tracks up there too, if you think they're up to scratch.
Peace

This is pretty wicked man. It kinda reminds me of some of Scroobius Pip's material, both lyrically and in your intonation. I've got no problem with the accent, most of the MCs I listen to on a regular basis are UK grime dudes, whose accents are usually pretty 'working class' as they say.
Hey dude, thanks for the comment and watch!
I'm glad you like the track, and I've had quite a few people say they think I sound a little Pip-ish (which I take as an enormous compliment!)
If you're interested, you can see my first ever public performance featuring this track and a preview of my new one over at www.youtube.com/watch?v=69CZO2DV0Lo
Also, if you like slightly rawer UK hip-hop/grime, check out Fliptrix. He's still relatively unknown, but his two albums have been on my iPod constantly for the last month when I'm not working on rhymes!
Peace!

I'm definitely liking the refrain. Great stuff! There's a lot going on in the U.K.; I've been reading about it in the papers. Your lyrics do a pretty decent job of capturing that discontent, but it's still got a pretty positive vibe.
When I get back from Japan and score some new decks, I'll definitely scratch on some of your work. Just say when!

Heh, yeah, it ended up being weirdly timely, recorded and released it the weekend after the rioting had happened, but I'd been writing it on and off for a couple of weeks beforehand!
Dude, I would love some proper turntablism on my work, always totally up for collaborating if you've got the time and the inclination. Hit me up when you getcha some decks and we'll totally work something out.
Peace!

I heard this on the Friday Night Tech! podcast!
It was one of the highlight tracks, and everyone in the IRC was excited when they heard it.
I'm so happy that the podcast host, Paradox, directed me to you; your music is beautiful.
I listen to this song during my morning transit!
It's so relaxing, and the message is stunning, and inspiring.
This may be your first track, but god damn, this is better than maybe 40% of all the other dribble I find in popular media these days.
You've got a follower, in me, and my four friends!
Keep up the awe inspiring rhymes!
From ~Mikelo ~Bael ~And two others!

I would purchase an album for sure. This is absolutely awesome. Also, I'm just getting into fruity loops to make some beats for my roommate. Going for a trip-hop sort of vibe with the beats. Maybe (after I figure this damned program out) I could make a few beats for you.
Much love from Houston, Texas.

really like what im hearing.
reminds me a bit of some of Faithless' work.
basic back beat so the words and meaning are not lost and the speed is perfect, quick, but slow enough to allow what you are saying to punch through.
dont know if the track is supposed to cut off at 3:38 and restart, might be my end.
Keep up the fantastic work. I will be watching ya.

Cheers fella, glad you enjoyed it!
I'm sure my producer would be glad to hear the comparison to Faithless, I'll make sure to pass it on to him!
We wanted to keep this simple so the lyrics weren't lost in the mire of a complex backing track, although the artifact of it restarting at 3:38 is definitely on your end. You can find a higher quality version over at http://catalystrhymes.co.uk if you want to download it for free!

Love the meaning behind these wonderfully crafted lyrics, you are a word smith indeed.
Actually, when I was listening to this, it reminded me of a song (Indie-Rock though) I recently wrote.
A lot of your opinions on how our world has come to is shared by me... so I really connected with this song.
I'm going to watch you, and I'll wait in anticipation for what your going to come out with next.
Again, amazing lyrics Kitt.

This is really beautiful and inspiring. I thought the "just play them this song" part was a little pretentious, haha, but otherwise it is really great. The words are very honest and easy to relate too.

Thanks so much for the recommendation, man <3

(p.s. Hah, one of Blank Space's tracks "Hip Hop Is Not..." is so on the same topic as what I just finished writing for my BaddWill collab! Glad to see we're on the same wavelength <3)

Oh man. I can't believe you're the first person to comment on that! It's the only bit of this track that still makes me cringe, lol.
Looking back, I'm gonna chalk that bit up to a learning experience. It's a pretty lazy lyrical device to have used, but it kinda worked. As time goes on, I'm finding myself feeling happier with my rhymes and structure, falling back less on clichès etc.
Thanks so much for your kind words about everything else though, stoked you're enjoying my tracks! Keep an ear out, more coming soon! <3
Peace!

P.s. Will check out your friends when I get home tonight, doing a training course and sneakily replying from my phone ATM! ;3
