Well, most of the ones we know of so far seems to be magically induced (Travis, Calvin, his sister, Diego and I think Dakota+her Sherpas too) as opposed to radioactive mutagens or some other “scientific” cause. So I think we can assume the how will be pretty similar in most cases.
The why, though, is something not as easily discernible, but I’m going to guess that it didn’t happen during Martin’s work hours.
