Misery tried everything she could to undo the disaster she had caused, but nothing had any effect on Sue. She did not know whether Sue had simply grown too enormous for magic to influence, or whether the botched spell had become irreversible. In the end, the witch could only retreat to the throne room, dreading the moment she would have to explain this to her master, and even more concerned by how dangerously close Sue’s colossal body floated. One wrong move from the giant girl could send the entire island crashing against her.
Meanwhile, Sue was in absolute shock. She could barely comprehend what had happened to her. She had been inflated and enlarged to a truly staggering, world-filling size, and even now her body gave off faint creaks and groans, as if the magic inside her was still expanding her from within. Every few minutes she felt a gentle but undeniable pressure pushing outward, her swollen form stretching with a soft, ominous gitchi… gitchi… sound that echoed across the sky.
Once she calmed down enough to think, she considered trying to stand up, but immediately remembered that the floating island was positioned directly in front of her belly, so close that even a small movement could knock it aside. Her mother, her brother, and her friends were all still up there. She prayed they were safe, but with her size eclipsing the entire horizon, she had no way of seeing what was happening on the island. The only thing she could do was stay completely still, enduring each tiny pulse of growth as her body inched a little larger, her skin quietly tightening with every breath.
Hours passed. Sue remained seated the entire day, bored out of her mind, able only to look around, mutter curses about the witch who caused all this, and occasionally rub her swollen, bloated body with a weary sigh. Each touch made her realize just how taut her enormous form had become, the magical pressure inside her making her surface thrum with a faint, constant tension.
At the same time, fear gnawed at her. Were they trying to find a way to fix her? Would she be stuck like this forever? She tried not to think about it, but the uncertainty was unbearable. As the sky began to darken, a terrible realization sank in. She was probably going to spend the whole night like this—motionless, enormous, faintly expanding, her body creaking in the silence of dusk. It was going to be a very long night, unless someone found a way to undo the spell before then.
