Yes, but also No.
Your supposition implies that she's going to be more concerned with the ramifications of having a main character as a love-interest.
My supposition implies that she's just realized that there are things capable of harming her new friend that the guild keeps secret, that she previously was not aware of could exist.
Knowing Valsalia, I'd imagine that their approach will more than likely be a combination of the two...

omg I just realized, the bandana looks like a Baxxid fin. Looking at page #256, it's about the same size too. Sure, Nell can make a prosthetic but in the meantime there's an opportunity to lean in real close to Kal's face...
My mind is still swimming with the potential implications of Nell dressing to Baxxid beauty standards this whole time.

Heh, thanks. Though to be fair, some kind of metal or generally something more durable than clay would probably be a better move, who knows what kind of elements or tasks he'll be exposed to.
Funny, when I made that comment I wasn't actually expecting it to happen, I just threw it out there bit randomly, but come to think of it, I feel pretty strongly that it will actually happen. We even have someone who's quite good at sculpting right there, and that "someone" deeply cares for Kalgur, so... #foreshadowing? xD

Kal can use the clay one while the metal is being made ^ ,.^ all you need is a plaster casting of the original <,.< Although, ever since I noticed how the bandana matches (also foreshadowing? or has Nell been dressing to Baxxid beauty standards this whole time >,.<), I kind of want to see Nell tie it around Kal's fin. Either way, clearly there must be face-closeness involved.
Of course, knowing Valsalia, we might be in for a lengthy physiological explanation of baxxid boneshaping and how it needs to be left open to the air, to prevent infection or promote regrowth or something.

If she make him a prosthetic horn, I can already see that being a trigger for that angry form again. Something gonna try for it and have a really bad day.
I do like that she's in shock tho, likely can't believe something that could cleave someone in two with ease could 'be' damaged.

Howdy-hi there, OOPsers! I'm here to remind you once again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics" https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3 that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
It closed out last month at 817+ votes and 30th place. It's currently atn15 votes and 35th place. The highest it's reached is 24th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something over 20,000+ votes, at least recently.
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!

I was revisiting page #278 while looking for baxxid lore and omg, baxxid can make facial expressions with their eyes!
I had come to think Kal's face was made of some kind of bone because Kal in particular has a bonelike color, the way it fades toward red in the center of the broken 'fin' with pain sensation, and various references to it as "bone" in at least laymen's terms. So I'm tempted to say #278 was just Valsalia experimenting with stylistic choices buttttt...
It got me thinking maybe their faces are actually like a turtle's shell. The rigidity of the shell comes from fused bones, but the outside is actually scute, a dermal growth that's made of the same stuff as horns. And it turns out that unlike antlers, horns do have bone near the base. But it's a bit of a stretch to think it would be flexible enough for them to even half-close their eyes, especially since the situation where it happens appears to be one of facial relaxation; it happens on pages #276 after Kal collapses, then again on #278 when the unnamed baxxid slouches against the wall after the others leave.
(also, that poor misunderstood baxxid with perpetrator trauma and social withdrawl... I'm glad their community is actually supportive and protective of shut-ins like them as per the public notice on page #241, rather than punishing them for failing the test as many seem to have assumed. I wrote a whole other thing there but it is a different topic, except for the emotional expressiveness conveyed in that -.- face)
So I was like, maybe baxxid faces are more like a leatherback or softshell turtle - thicker skin but without the scute. It still looks solid because it's still right on top of bone. But this would allow flexibility around the eyes, and more importantly mean Kal's face is potentially much more pettable!
And then I looked closer at the 'unblunted' baxxid on page #244 who hasn't smoothed down the foreclaws, and realized those look conspicuously like... fur? Scute, feathers, fur and scales are all different evolutions of the same skin growths, so I'm thinking maybe the baxxid have developed a totally new kind. Like, a fur that fuses together into plates but retains the shaggy look. I imagine the physical properties would vary like carbon fiber depending on how the fur grows, which would explain the eyes. And since like fur it'd be growing from roots, Kalgkur would still feel the touch from Nell petting his face!
