The actual reason is because killing/hurting the people responsible for his suffering will ruin the relationship he's developing, and his path to potential happiness

I actually have a similar issue with my Rogue right now, where the Party are very against indiscriminate killing, and all about resolving issues with redemption and healthy ways of resolving things.
And they're realy invsted in this cause all of the people my character wants to ruin/murder all keep coming to alarmingly horriic ends without us having to lift a finger as a party, so, the Universe is clearly doing it for me cause I'm being a good boy...
(Though, I'm not, at all, it's all me, with the DM having secret mini-sessions where I lay out a plan to be happning Oceans-11 style at the same time as what's going on at the table, and each time I've done well enough to avoid being spotted and to achieve all of my revenge-driven, often needlessly violent actions)
