Clawlion had been abandoned as a dibbun (child) and was taken in by a crew of sea rats. He grew up hateful of Redwall Abbey and the life of peace he was denied. Clawlion vowed to take revenge and to lead his own crew of corsairs. Clawlion’s rescuers never expected him to challenge their captain for control of the ship. He fought hard against the old captain. He had to prove himself, for his own sake. Clawlion dodged and carefully planned out his every move, but his skill was no match for Captain Runar. The weasel captain gave Clawlion a nasty claw mark on his snout and pinned him down with his cutlass. He kicked at Runar’s stomach and slaughtered the weasel with one swift stab. Clawlion felt sick afterwards. He had become captain, but at what cost?
