The cake is NOT a lie. ;)
I said I was gonna do cupcakes, but in the end I chickened out and went with a regular cake instead...
Finished cake made in honor of Mara's birthday today - the cake is white angelfood cake and the frosting is cherry. And of course you know what those are on top of it. hehe
I don't pretend to be an expert baker, and this is only the second time I've tried baking with angelfood cake. Last year, I made cupcakes that turned out rather chewy, due either to them being overdone or the fact that I had only a confectionary oven to work with. Happily, this year's cake seems to have worked just fine. :)
I put a really thin layer of frosting on the top cuz its really really rich, and that much sugar is a major OUCH on my teeth - but there's still half a container left so others can slather on as much as they want. I've had my piece though and I have no complaints. lol
I think next year I'll go with regular cake though, maybe try making it look like a butterfly or something. We'll see. :)

What kind of frosting did you use? Homemade or store-bought? Buttercream, whipped cream, or something else? :)
I have a recipe for a cream cheese buttercream that's super easy to make, and it's not very sweet at all, I use it for my red velvet cupcakes all the time, and I bet it would go great with the marachino cherries too ;) Make it taste more like a cherry cheesecake or something =D

Its store-bought...and I *think* buttercream...its not the real fluffy kind, so whatever the other one is. lol
My friend suggested doing cheesecake instead of angelfood, but I'm afraid something like that laying around will get eaten REALLY quick, cuz I'm a total cheesecake nut. lol
Go ahead and note me the recipe, it might be something I could make for my own birthday cake in January. :3
