Original Species: Vogelheim Winky Parrot
The Winky Parrot is a small and very colorful bird native to the forests of Northern Vogelheim. Its striking coloration makes it stand out among the greens and browns of the jungle. It does not hide from predators. Instead, it fully relies on its agility and the density of its habitat to stay safe. The name of this species comes from the long eyebrow feathers that both sexes seem to have (it was definitely a more appealing name than the "Brow Parrot").
The vibrant feathers do have a function, however. Winky Parrots are very gregarious and feel safest when they can easily locate their flock-mates. By bobbing their pink heads and flashing their red and yellow tails, these small birds can easily communicate without having to make a single sound. In fact, they are surprisingly quiet by parrot standards. The only time these birds get loud is during the mating season when they sing to each other to find a mate. To keep the gene pool diverse, these birds swap out partners every year. More successful and adept partners can be chosen consecutively, though that is fairly rare.
Winky Parrots are also very mischievous. Aisha's concern is fully justified as these little bugger have pooped on researchers before… which also noted another instance when they become loud: this species is confirmed to be capable of laughter. Very mocking, chittery, gremlin-like laughter.
