♡ Blood often spoils, becomes darker, may change color depending on original blood color, if you have any at all and are not a skeleton, or ectoplasm which is the color of your soul type if you are an apparition.
Cadaverite is a term coined by people who are undead, and many prefer to be referred to as, just ‘undead’ and ‘revenant’ are also fairly accepted, but ‘zombie’ is fairly touchy, some Cadaverites are ok with the term while others despise it.
When Cadaverites with bodies sleep, what they actually do is die again, they can be dormant as long as they want, using this time to explore purgatory, mingle with spirits, discover information you may not have been able to find in the living realm, they may return to their body at any time.
Instead of stepping out of their body, they may choose to go into a deeper sleep in purgatory while their spirit is still overlapping with their body, this is very refreshing, and a Cadaverite may sleep for a hundred or so years and more if they choose to.
Below are various ways one may become a Cadaverite.

● Morcid pact [Depending on how significant your pact is with Venmortsen, you could be totally immortal, and have a body able to be reformed after a grievous injury, or at least able to reattach parts yourself, your level of decay is also determined by this, as it also affects how soon your soul returns to your cadaver, but this is generally a guaranteed eventual escape from purgatory.]
● High SP [soulpower] [If having had high enough SP in life, one may be able to find their body and enter it again, be warned, higher SP means your spirit may appear farther away in purgatory apon death, taking you longer to reach your body, and allowing it to degrade more. Cadaverites of this variety still have the ability to reattach limbs, but much slower, like a very low-tier morcid deal.]
● Fail a ritual or become cursed [Any number of rituals gone wrong, or curses being failed could kill your body without severing your link to it, most only realize once their flesh shifts in palor, or notice their pulse slow to a near halt, the level of rot this Cadaverite will go through before stabilizing is determined by how catastrophic the failure of the ritual was, or if a curse, the victim will have to find a way to stabilize it themselves, there are magical practitioners who specialize in helping a rotting Cadaverite keep most of their body. An attempted curse can also be failed, resulting in the caster being the one to suffer it.]
● Gain very high SP in Purgatory [If you gain SP in Purgatory while dead, something different happens, as you level up, you may eventually become an apparition, losing need for a body altogether, your soul becoming physical, and existing in both purgatory and in the physical realm, these beings are powerful and very rare. At most souls usually are only able to move or throw objects, and appear in limited durations only within a specific area, which has uniquely strong link between purgatory and the living realm, apparitions are not bound by this.]

Only the lucky ones have the güd extra spicy yum yum deluxe powers but still not being completely dead is pretty cool by itself.
A whole lot of time with a theoretically unlimited "life"span, a lot of that time would just boil down to sleeping, methinks, mainly to avoid boredom of otherwise being awake forever.
