The crowd had left. The performers’ ears rang even as the orchestra pit emptied out. Giselle only remembered parts of the show, mostly the effort that went into her own moves. She felt raw, unsteady, and high off the applause as she staggered off the stage.
“… How… was…”
Seeing the purple hair and blue scales, Giselle let herself lose balance. She tumbled into Madam Marvel’s embrace, and her ringmaster’s arms quelled her shaking.
“… How was I…?” Giselle asked, her voice weak.
Madam Marvel smiled as she cradled her ballerina. “You were spectacular, darling.” It was the softest tone she had ever used.
“Spectacular…” Giselle echoed, finally feeling some peace.
