The East-wind Deity of the Sands Day 12 of the excavation.
We uncovered a collapsed chamber beneath the eastern wing of the ruin. The walls are covered in unfamiliar hieroglyphic hybrids—Egyptian symbols mixed with motifs I’d only expect from far Eastern myths.
One inscription stood out:
“A fox-spirit from the East, carried by the Silk Road, given form by belief upon our sands.”
Another panel, heavily damaged, reads:
“Her benevolence rivaled the Mother-Goddess… her worship grew too vast… the gods bound her in black silk and sealed her-.”
A final line sent chills through the team:
“Entombed between the living and the dead… she will rise when the sun is devoured.”
As I finished tracing the last glyph, the sky outside darkened—
an eclipse we hadn’t predicted.
The ground trembled.
Dust rained from the ceiling.
Something moved beneath the stone.
