Hey guys, new species and im basing them off of Rosaline (gonna link her here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/53394515/). This will also be a lore dump post.
Biology
The Dionwye are a species of bipedal and semi aquatic theropods that stand at roughly 7ft tall. Their bodies are typically red with dark wavy bands above and below separating the red from their white belly and back sail. Their skin is soft like a mammal’s without any scales while atop their head is a line of thick mammal-like hair which can either be styled to stick up straight like a mohawk or flop down the sides of the head and neck. Their ancestor species were ancestorally more furred though it was lost, leaving just the hair on their head.
All four of a normal individual’s limbs are dark in coloration like the wavy bands with four somewhat short digits, though the innermost on each foot is tipped in a recurved claw. Their sail helps in body regulation and a soft paddle extends from it down the length of their tail for display and assisting in swimming.
The Dionwye are oviparous, however typically only produce a single egg at a time, with the egg taking two months to hatch as the offspring develops inside. Thanks to a somewhat thick shell on some eggs thanks to a set of common genetic defects among the population it often requires the parents' assistance in hatching by carefully cracking the exterior.
The Dionwye are omnivorous, having sharp cutting fangs at the front of their mouth while the ones at the rear are flatter to allow them to crush plant matter. Despite being omnivorous, Dionwye lean more towards eating meat though can handily survive on a plant based diet without many issues.
A notable ethnic variation among the species originated from the upper class of an interstellar vessel which escaped a war with an unmanned fleet back in their home system and are characterised by having much larger tails while the dark portions of their limbs are instead white like long gloves and socks. These traits arose as a combination of selective and inbreeding, and while not genetic, the extremely sedentary and lazy lifestyles of said upper class individuals also nominally result in particularly high obesity rates.
History
In the late 1880s the Dionwye had taken to extensively colonising their own solar system when without warning radiation sensing satellites and observatories picked up a lot of bursts of high energy radiation coming from the outer solar system. It wasn’t long until a large fleet of unknown spacecraft descended on one of the gas giants in their outer system. They refused to respond to any form of messages so a small detachment of local research vessels were dispatched to investigate their actions and around the same time some smaller craft broke away from the larger ones and seemed to start actively mining for raw resources. The larger vessels in the main fleet seemed to mostly ignore their observers until it was noticed some irritated miners had proceeded to attack their small resource extraction detachment for violating a claim of theirs and the larger vessels without warning proceeded to disintegrate their observers with particle beam weapons and systematically began striking every piece of space infrastructure within the local vicinity with machine like efficiency. Attempts to meet them in active combat even with nuclear weapons failed due to their longer range weaponry and seemingly impenetrable energy barriers. With the dire news and how systematic the likely unmanned alien vessels were, a group on the other side of the solar system around another of their gas giants began the rapid construction of a generation ship to try escape and preserve the species if the alien ships were completely genocidal, and to prevent the possibility of getting followed or otherwise alerting anyone or their enemy, construction effectively occurred in secret. In the late 1890s the construction project was completed and their homeworld was falling with cities being destroyed via orbital bombardment so without much choice the generation ship was loaded up with a few thousand colonists and departed the system as stealthily as possible before attempting to accelerate up to 25% of lightspeed for a system 40 light years away which had a planet with a high certainty of habitability. Unfortunately about halfway through the acceleration phase the ship suffered a critical engine failure, but they were already on their way so immediately went into panic mode as now their trip was going to take almost twice as long so measures were immediately implemented to stretch the duration of their supplies and equipment.
Meanwhile back in their home system the drone vessels had finished their work though had not totally exterminated all of the Dionwye population, instead having entirely destroyed their industrial basis and significantly depopulated their homeworld while effectively completely destroying all off world populations. As such the remaining population were reset to preindustrial levels while the drone ships just seemed to move on, vanishing from the system.
Back on the generation ship society began to mutate somewhat from its initial state upon departure with severe classism coming into effect over the decades, eventually descending into a monarchistic model of government with the descendents of the command staff becoming effectively royalty and getting the lion’s share of the highly rationed food resources, and later more simply the higher quality produce as a result of the degradation of onboard equipment working well past its original expiry date. Thankfully despite the societal devolution the ship arrived intact at its destination and its passengers were greeted by an idyllic world, much to everyone’s elation as it meant their ancestors’ sacrifice had not been for nothing. Much of the planet was dotted with archipelagos of highly variable scale and during their survey from orbit witnessed the formation of a large storm in one of its hemispheres, resulting in them putting a pause on settlement in order to observe weather patterns. For several weeks they watched the hurricane blow over several of the islands before ultimately fizzling out over the side of a larger continent and after it fizzled away the pause on settlement was extended as they realized that due to them being the last of their kind they needed to treat settlement of the planet with the utmost care. For the duration of the planet’s year they studied weather patterns, in particular the air streams and currents as they were crucial in the formation of the large storms that appeared in some spots of the planet and were able to identify a rather safe location to settle down on, a large and relatively flat island which had terrain amenable to farming. With the study now completed they were finally able to begin settling the planet and decided to set down around a large open bay, in part due to possible future expansion to other locations on the planet by sea and sail.
Over the next few decades the group grew in size and ventured to many of the islands around them, and in 2269 the Dionwye were discovered by the Kipheijh, however the Dionwye, having the history of what happened to them at the hands of a fleet of alien vessels, were incredibly wary of the Kipheijh and assumed that they too wished them harm. For over a month the Kipheijh ships stayed outside of the orbit of Xouno Weya and periodically sent out signals to the planet and while they initially were presented as jumbled nonsense of code it began to resemble parts of the Dionwye's language with what appeared to be a greeting announcing who they were. Leadership however refused to engage until the Kipheijh made a transmission insisting that they did not wish them any harm and attempted to show that their ships did not have any weapons, however the Dionwye were not swayed and finally responded by telling them that they were not welcome and had to leave. With the Kipheijh unable to make ground with the Dionwye they left the system, leaving some to question the intentions of the Kipheijh and if they really meant them harm or not as they had seemed willing to peacefully interact with them. Over the next few months a split began to form within the Dionwye as some wanted to remain isolationists out of their own safety, while others wanted to at the very least properly communicate with the Kipheijh and ultimately were unable to come to a consensus when the Kipheijh returned, this time with another alien ship of a completely different design. Thanks to the lack of a consensus being reached no official attempt to make contact was made, however they did not stop the others from attempting to make contact. Messaging the Kipheijh the group expressed that they were sorry for their first encounter as far as they knew they were the last of their kind after a group of advanced alien ships and had conducted a genocide of their species and were incredibly wary of any outsiders for fear it could happen again, with the group admitting to some degree they to believed the Kipheijh could potentially be malicious against them.
While the Kipheijh attempted to convince the Dionwye that they weren't a threat, they discovered the Dionwye’s home system after exploring systems relatively near the Dionwye’s currently inhabited system and found wreckage of what seemed to have previously been a spacefaring civilization's infrastructure, likely destroyed in some kind of war with the remnants of large space habitats littering the orbits of the system’s gas giants. Heading to the system’s habitable planet they found that the cities which had once covered parts of its surface were also destroyed, with only a tiny number of buildings left standing to serve as a reminder of what once existed. As they explored, with some difficulty thanks to severe storms erupting across several regions, they found small settlements when surveying from high altitude with thermal cameras in locations that appeared incredibly difficult to reach, and the settlement seemed to be ignoring their radio messaging when pinged. In their attempts to get close the defensive systems on the Kipheijh’s craft signalled several warnings of incoming missiles, prompting them to evade to a safe distance. It was noted that while they did successfully evade the missiles, a number did seem to fail in one way or another before getting close, their motors fizzling out or prematurely exploding. Assessing that maybe the settlement’s weapons weren’t exactly up to scratch, and their lack of response earlier meant they needed a new strategy to talk to them, so manufactured a large quantity of leaflet bombs to deliver the message that they weren’t there to hurt them in a more, analogue way, hoping that they’d understand the language on them. While it initially seemed that it was a failed endeavor as there was no response of any kind from the settlement, however after a month a response finally came from the settlement, being a simple coded message which seemed to be an acknowledgement of them. Despite this the settlement still did not allow the Kipheijh to come close and unable to do much else the ship left to report their findings and head to Xouno Weya. After arriving at Xouno Weya they quickly told the Dionwye there that they found their homeworld and that there were still survivors which intrigued many, however most remained skeptical about the news as to them, the destruction they had fled had seemed total, however 5 individuals remained curious enough that they agreed to make the journey to their homeworld.
After arriving at the planet, the Kipheijh messaged the settlement that they were coming down with a group of Dionwye that they had discovered which managed to escape the destruction of their home system, however like before the settlement only transmitted a simple message of acknowledgement and did not seem to want any interaction. Seeing that the settlement had little interest in them the Kipheijh decided that they needed to be shown the Xouno Weya Dionwye so flew them down to the planet's surface to show them in person after notifying the settlement of their intentions. Landing on the planet's surface some 30 miles away from the settlement, the group spent several days traversing the land on foot which was thankfully made easy due to the lack of inclement weather. During the trek however they found that despite the damage done by whatever had attacked them and the storms ripping and tearing up what remained, the land was still full of life, with many in the expedition spotting animals scurrying to burrows as the team came near. Eventually they reached the entrance to the canyon where the settlement was hidden, however before the group could enter they were met with what appeared to be a minefield as they found blast marks on the ground and metal fragments. As they figured out how to get around the minefield the sound of gunfire erupted prompting the group to dive to the ground as they heard shots whizzing over their heads and after several minutes had passed the gunfire stopped. When the group looked up from where they lay the group watched as a pair of bushes began moving across the field behind them in their direction which came to a stop when in relatively close proximity. They quickly revealed themselves to be Dionwye in heavy camouflage and began shouting at the group in some language that not even the Xouno Weya Dionwye could fully understand, however it was clear that their captors wanted them to throw their packs to the ground and put their hands in the air. After tossing their belongings to the ground and putting their hands in the air, their captors quickly inspected the bags and seemingly satisfied their stuff was tossed back to them, waving their guns to tell the group to follow. After collecting their things the group followed the two away from the canyon entrance towards a cliffside and directed the group towards a rope ladder which led down to a ledge, however the Kipheijh physically were not capable of using the ladder unassisted. After thinking how to get down the ladder an individual had the idea to tie their lower body to a Dionwye and have them climb down first before the Kipheijh went down, effectively functioning as a set of back legs The plan proved a success as the Kipheijh were able to safely be lowered down to the ledge and once everyone was down they were led further to a cave and ordered inside, passing through a maze of tunnels for several minutes before eventually arriving at what appeared to be a guard checkpoint where they were once again subjected to an inspection. Once they were inspected they were allowed through, though the Kipheijh among them seemed to be treated with a particularly large amount of suspicion as the guards didn’t remove their suits, seemingly unsure as to what to make of the fact they were wearing them. They passed by more guard checkpoints before they eventually reached the settlement, hidden away in a large cave with a large hole exposing it to the canyon and the sky and were brought to a heavily guarded building. After being checked once again by all the guards outside they were allowed inside and it became abundantly clear that it was the government building of the settlement and were set in front of a group of people who greeted them in a somewhat broken version of the Xouno Weya Dionwye’s language.
For the next several hours they conversed, with the Kipheijh explaining that they had encountered the Dionwye who had fled their home system, who in turn explained that they had safely arrived to their new world, albeit on a delayed schedule. In turn the settlement leaders explained to the Kipheijh that they had been attacked by unknown warships that laid waste to their space settlements and homeworld, and for a period of time had deployed an army of machines to destroy what remained, waving a hand to the remains of a robot that was strung up on a wall. Eventually the settlement leadership was convinced that the Kipheijh had no ill intentions for them, however still remained cautious at the Kipheijh offering them help in recovering, pointing out the fact that they were just a random little settlement, why were they any more special than the rest of the disaffected population across the planet. In response the Kipheijh expressed that they had not seen other groups during their initial survey, but further stated that they had full intentions on helping anyone they could find and asked the leaders of the settlement if they knew where any other groups were at to make their own search much easier. With the settlement leaders providing a map of nearby settlements they ordered their radio station operators to send a message to them, telling them that the Kipheijh were coming to provide assistance in their recovery. While the Kipheijh prepared to assist the Dionwye of Xouno, the Dionwye from Xouno Weya were returned home where they announced that there were people who had survived annihilation at the hands of the mystery vessels and were now being assisted by the Kipheijh, which put many at ease including the governing body of Xouno Weya. Eventually through several years of collaboration civilization was properly restored on Xouno, which aided in the Dionwye wanting to come under the wing of the Kipheijh.
