Day 434 - December 12th, 2741
Well, today is the day. We camped out at this spot last night and got a good look around. It has raised hills at each side of the road, and covered by thick trees for overhead cover. We positioned ourselves around both sides of the road, Lily at my side with the carbine rifle. I took the EM rifle, and so we waited in position

Hmm. Open by dropping trees forward, then trees aft of the convoy. Follow up by having your best shoot out tires. If there's enough rounds, suppress enemy movement via covering fire while sharpshooters shift from tires to enemy combatant targets. Always delegate one to take out comms and/or people on comms to prevent them calling in CAS and/or artillery.
I know it's pretty generic, but then, I'm not military-trained. I THINK it might be prudent to use the grenade launcher also to crater or damage the road to prevent retreat, too, but again, not sure of the capability of grenades in the setting.

An excellent guess, but Clover might have a different idea on starting the ambush.
Something to also keep in mind is that despite STEEL's presence in the province, they are quite stretched thin. Sol is a frontier planet in the farthest reaches of civilization, and STEEL is in the midst of an all-out war with Eltyr. Resources are limited and eyes often overlook this planet.
The Kin, and Mayor Ariel know this, and are willing to set forth a chain of events due to it.

I'm just one of those folk for whom my thought is if you have orbital superiority, having eyes on a wide variety of areas with AI-assisted overwatch is pretty easy. Then again, I tend to also overthink it, but that's just how I can be. Ambushes under eyes-over conditions have to be these lightning-fast things, and off-area arty is a major concern as is any possibility of CAS.
Sol's population is very small, and a mere fraction of what it used to be. Plus hospitable areas are few and far between.
While such advanced technologies exist, you wouldn't see entire fleets of billion/trillion-dollar spaceships keeping an eye on a group of farmers or traders. Yes Sol does have its threats, but none leave orbit so they are 'contained' threats according to STEEL. And given the war, they have bigger priorities.
