ARA - Offensive Driving - Thak Jypsun
Thak Jypsun’s style of driving is only complemented by his bike, the Valiant 03.
Known for his excellent skill on the track, something that every rival driver must be wary of is the being in the man’s rearview. Driving behind Mr. Jypsun, or attempting to overtake him, are two of the most moments to find oneself in a race for any driver. Even experienced drivers in the Association would prefer not to find themselves stuck behind Thak Jypsun. Any opportunity to pass him risk-free is considered a blessing.
Prior to finding the Lord, he was well known for deploying numerous tricks to ensure his position in a race was absolute.
Though he is well known for his skill at deploying a pit maneuver, a technique for taking out a driver who is ahead of you on the track, what scares drivers the most is his ability to turn a fishtail into a deadly assault.
Thak Jypsun has mastered the art of purposely sending the Valiant 03 into a fishtail, throwing his backside into the path of fellow drivers and threatening them with the risk of a crash. Less experienced drivers and amateurs alike fall for this trick and assume the worst, either backing off out of fear of collision or worse they overcorrect in a panic and cause their own crash while Thak Jypsun rights himself and speeds off. The Valiant 03’s quick acceleration and excellent handling afford Mr. Jypsun a healthy margin of error while regaining full control of his bike.
When he’s not fishtailing with purpose, he’s elevating the art of brake checking. The rear flanks of the Valiant 03’s chassis are reinforced, and its tires are the most expensive and durable models money can buy. If he only wants to threaten his opponent, Mr. Jypsun will perform a simple brake check as a warning, like the rattle of his tail. When he wants to remove someone from the lineup, he will actually line his bike up so that he can brake check with malice, provoking a rear end collision.
In such a collision, the cheap outer hull he mounts to the rear flanks of his bike will buckle and break while the reinforced frame of his chassis holds steady. Both create an ugly matchup for a rival’s front tire, risking the chance of a blowout. If the physical impact against the Valiant 03’s chassis fails to do it, then the broken pieces of its hull will become shrapnel that might do the trick. The Valiant 03’s own rear wheel is rated and built for extended use with multiple manufacturer assurances that it can handle aggressive driving, which makes it the perfect durable wheel to use when forcing a rear end collision. With Thak’s intuition, he’s able to skillfully deploy this maneuver to take out a rival while only causing superficial damage to the Valiant 03.
Regardless of his tricks, the Valiant 03 is primarily a front wheel drive machine that blesses Thak with an easier time in recovering after a stunt.
Many arguments are made about the legality of Thak’s choices in bike design, but he follows all the rules to the letter. His outer hull is just rigged up to be as cheap as can be legally gotten away with. There’s no shortage of drivers who have complained of damage to their bikes from simply running over the broken pieces of the Valiant 03, some of them even losing races due to blowing out a tire after driving over a sharp chunk of plating.
Though Mr. Jypsun’s driving style has become less aggressive since his declaration of faith, he is still a force to be reckoned with. Drivers to this day play it safe around him, choosing caution over courage. Sometimes it’s better to just leave well enough alone, and let Thak Jypsun have his position.
