I like to use the old style incandescent Christmas lights. Prefer the warm glow they give. These are 1990s era sets though. Not the boiling hot 1960s era ones.

I agree, although at 7 watts each these draw a LOT of current.
I remember my Dad fussing with a string of the really old series-connected lights. They ran a little cooler but if one went out you had to check the entire string -- and hope your replacement bulb was good!
