Kha'eshan Bestiary: Panzerdilus
The Panzerdilus is yet another descendant of Eoros's Picondilus, which was introduced to the world of Kha'eshan some 20 million years ago.
Similar to the Stridilus and Enormadilus, this reptile showcases a form of convergent evolution. Over time, the small crocodile-like reptiles have become analogous to many herbivorous dinosaurs that once inhabited Earth. The Panzerdilus specifically seems to draw from ankylosaurs- armored herbivores with nearly impenetrable hides. Much like those dinosaurs, this crocodile relative developed tough dermal armor, though it hasn't yet evolved a club-like tail. However, this may be a specific species that doesn't have one. That is yet to be discerned.
The Panzerdilus is a solitary animal. With its armor, it doesn't need to worry about being attacked by most predators. The largest drakes and pterodactyls can still kill it with relative ease, but these are not as common in the grasslands as one would assume. If approached calmly and without aggression, this herbivore can be quite docile, unbothered by the presence of people. Still, approaching one recklessly is ill-advised. It can deal devastating damage with its tail and shoulder spikes.
This crocodile-like reptile mostly eats low-to-the=ground plants (grasses, herbs, etc), and is responsible for maintaining open areas with clear visibility. Smaller, fleet-footed herbivores often accompany it due to the relative protection it provides.
