Absolutely one of the top rocks ever, honestly. Absolutely a staple of Wisconsin, all of the roads around the Baraboo area are purple because they crush it to gravel for asphalt.
One of the funny properties of quartzite is that it's super slippery and smooth, which is actually a pretty great way to identify it (it has saved me on some tests), but it's actually terrible to walk on. Devil's Lake state park is made entirely out of the stuff and all of the stairs up the side of the bluffs are made out of it. And there's no guard rails. It's great!
But it's absolutely a splendid looking quartzite, it's very very purple. It has a lot of the textbook sedimentary features, like grain size sorting, ripple marks, cross bedding, etc etc. And all of those have been quite well preserved, as the metamorphosis the rock underwent was basically just being cooked.
