Combined with the right optics and lighting, mirror plates like this one can be used to project a divine image onto a wall or screen. Sometimes they are used in fixed set-ups, creating imagery when the sun is at certain angles during the year (especially on holidays,) and other times they will be included in portable shrines, typically accompanied by lenses, polishes, and ancillary mirrors.

You don't need lenses when you have a perversely bright point light source like you get from a mobile phone.
