The ears only look seperate because of the subsurface scattering shader I assigned to these polies. It seems to mess around with Mayas viewport a bit. The hair and all fur descriptions are one piece and are then controlled by fur attribute maps, simple weight painting maps for every fur attribute like lenght, baldness and so on.
