Sleepy the Xterra goes on interdimensional adventures with the trio: Fephar, Plano and Remi.
This comic was written as a gift to my future husband for his birthday this past April. I started the process in February. Since then, I have discovered digital art and grown a lot while making this.
In truth, this is a personal project with a lot of inside jokes and references that most readers will not fully understand. I will do my best to explain them as I finish and upload the pages.
As for the quality, when I first started digital art almost a year ago with this project, I debated redoing it with the knowledge and slightly cleaner style I have now, but I think the clumsy first attempts at coloring and experimenting with layers were important to the process, so I left them be.
This story is about my fiance's dear Xterra, that he and Plano bought together as a project car as well as for a daily driver.
I remember riding in Sleepy to and from work, the smell of the oil leak clinging to our clothes. As well as the frigid cold in my shoes in winter as sleepy's heat was not great and the windows were kept cracked to filter the fumes. I remember the kisses shared in Sleepy, the jokes, the plans made for travelling.
I remember watching Fephar work on this car with Plano, arguing over wiring or shouting triumphantly as the fixes helped Sleepy become better and better.
I remember our wreck that took out the A-pillar on 210 east right as I had started this comic. "Thanks MOdot"
This is a story of all of us in another dimension. We are happy now in this dimension, but the cost to fix Sleepy was great and our funds slim. While Sleepy has been stored for future renovation, the comic will keep living. A true reminder that life doesn't stop when things get hard. No matter how dented things get, there's always a way to move forward.
