It's unclear whether it's a nightnarish or a dreamer. the group first encounter them in chapter 2 in abandoned areas of geek world, such as the basement of kim kasino. only their face is visible, as these areas are dark. In chapter 3, the thing recounts their past and emotional connection to hambo and her friends. It seems to recall somethin' traumatic. Durin' the thing's monologue, the watcher appears, performing a jumpscare by reachin' its hand towards the screen while laughing. from this point, their true form can be seen in the monologue. they also appears in some areas of the secret arcade, servin' only as easter eggs featuring their eyes, smile, and cheeks. the watcher is also summoned as an enemy in the baalphomet battle. It's unknown why they may appear as an enemy in this battle. they will also appear in chapter 4, this time as another easter egg. the first instance is in some abandoned areas, such as small temples. In these areas, only their face will be visible. If the group approaches, they will simply laugh and disappear. in others, they will simply appear, observin' the group's movements. they cannot be touched or approached, however, they can be seen. In one of the runerus's dialogues near an abandoned temple, they will say the following, the child has chased the dark hand out of their curiosity, this hand caused them and their family to disappear. It's possible that this dialogue is linked to both Watcher and chara dreemurr, a human who disappeared along with their family in sunday town. It's unknown if this dialogue is implied with the watcher and chara. the watcher is a shadow creature of unknown race, it's unclear whether they're a dreamer or a nightmarish. they're has an appearance very similar to fang, with a white outline and a dark body. they has one pink eye and one yellow eye, as well as red cheeks with sharp teeth, a segmented tail with a hand, and clothin' resembling that of a jiangshi with bat wings. they doesn't have any defined limbs. Since their appearance is based on fang, they would have the attire of a jiangshi, as previously described. they has no dialogue, as they only watches or observes from the darkness. their gender and true intentions are also unknown, they simply observes. although baalphomet summoned them as an enemy in the arcade, it's still unknown whether they're truly good or evil. some even claim that the watcher drove hell-bell and nekkoton insane, and that they kidnapped chara and their family, though this is uncertain.
