A species thought to only be serving the Dark Lord to the point that many thought of them of being creations of the Dark Lord.
However, the truth is that they're a species as old as the elves and also came from the Fey Realm, but unlike the similarly named but unrelated goblins they never made themselves known too much to mortals, mostly sights of them were reported as sightings of scary bear or toad-like monsters stalking caves and abandoned forts of Galoor.
The previously mentioned elves (especially of the older generations) know however that hobgoblins are normally secretive creatures that will steal or eat anything they can get their hands on but can be reasoned with and even making them sign contracts to become servants or even soldiers in your army, which the Dark Lord had found out.
They will appear friendly and jolly as servants but despite looking like dumb brutes they are actually fast learners and do await for moments that will make their contracts null if they find that their current master is bad, either cursing them or getting rid of them.
The women are usually more capable of magical finesse and are normally seen as witches and important in hobgoblin societies.
Also, they don't normally wear that few clothes and have been seen in many different clothes.
