After my previous attempt at Zootopia fan art failed spectacularly, I wanted to retry it right away, this time heavily influenced by the second movie, i'd watched twice inbetween.
The subject was quickly made: Pawbert and Nick were going to get properly drunk in a spawts bar or somewhat like this. So I sketched it out, shifting the whole scene oddly far to the right, which made it seem like a good idea to sneak in Judy. Of course, Judy couldn't be particularly amused by the way the two guys were getting wasted; so she had to have a rather glum expression. But to give her an even better reason for that face, Nick got the dictaphone carrot. And suddenly, Gary appeared in the frame as well. Yep, that's how it happened.
But how did that come about? That's easy to explain: Filming had just wrapped. After a hard day in the artificial snow of tundra town a cold beer was just what they needed.
Of course, this explanation is quite nonsense. In fact, Pawbert harbors no evil intentions nor holds a grudge against anyone, just as there's no patent hunt because no patent exists at all. What the movie didn't show: After Judy and Nick wrecked half the city with the "Rüsselschüssel" (Translated from German: trunk bucket - the piggies car) and endured Chief Bogo's dressing-down, Nick later ran back to the captain's office to deliver one of his usual quips. This enraged Bogo so much he suspended Judy and Nick for two weeks. What others might welcome as an opportunity for some well-deserved leave pushed the ambitious rabbit to her honor limits. To keep Judy from getting too upset during this time off, Nick devised a plan – with the help of his buddy Pawbert and a little assistance from Mr. Big, they invented a fictional case involving stolen patents and reptiles, giving Judy a "cold" case to solve that never existed. So it seems quite legit to have the bunch sitting drunk in a bar, celebrating the brillant prank.
Or is that nonsense too? Is it more likely that no one can really explain why Pawbert and Nick are drinking together?
I'm sure you'll find a good reason, even if it's just the wishful thinking of a misguided lynx who, just before the end, comes to his senses, as he is a good guy deep down.
However, besides the usual mistakes and unintentional discrepancies between the sketch and the final image, there are also a lot of successful spots. I'm sure this wasn't the last time we see the lynx.
PS: I mentioned the "Rüsselschüssel" above. Unfortunatelly I couldn't find the origin movie scene, when Nick called the Razorbacks jealous, as they weren't allowed to drive the car. I assume Nick called it "Hogrod" instead of "hotrod"; at least it would make a good pun here. Could you guys verify this or even tell me what the piggie's car is called in English? Wold be interesting to know.
