Wild Cards: Jack and Ace, Part 13
Around evening, Elisa had taken on her costume once again. She had been jumping between building roof tops like a ninja, but stopping once and a while between city blocks to survey the area. She wanted to be on lookout, but there was somewhere in particular she wanted to go. A few more blocks until she saw the hospital; hopefully it was the one Kelly’s father was in. But that’s when she heard an alarm blare, across the street from the building she perched. Elisa looked to the direction of the hospital, then she looked toward this alarmed building and sighed. She leaped for a light pole, spinning, sliding, and riding it to the ground; then she ran over to the building that was robbed.
An electronics store had its windows shattered, but no one had come running out. The clerk inside was being held in place by a grey wolf at gunpoint. This wasn’t a lone wolf, there was a coyote and black rat that were taking everything. The rat would pack away the cell phones and computers and tablets into a sack, and everything behind the glass casing would be broken open by the coyote.
“Please, you can have what you want.” The rabbit said, “The guys in the back won’t come out until-”
“Shut it!” The wolf growled, “You already screwed us by pulling the alarm! Another peep from you, and I’ll cave your skull in!”
“Then I got things to say!” Through the broken window, stood Lightshow, “Weren’t you causing trouble already?” She eyed over the crooks. They had similar armor made from scrap metal, painted in yellow with black stripes, “I didn’t know that one horse had friends.”
The wolf grabbed the rabbit, and held him like a shield, “Back off, or he gets it!”
“And you think I care?” Lightshow chuckled, “I’m not a cop, dude. If he goes down, I have more of a reason to set you all on fire.” And she flourished a firecracker between her fingers. “Best let him go if you want a fair fight.”
“Waste her!” The coyote shouted, and ran at the cat with a pipe wrench.
Lightshow dodged it, and slapped his butt. No, he planted the firecracker in the coyote’s back pocket. He yelped and panicked as the back of his pants exploded and singed.
The rat ran for the other display window, jumping through with a sack of stolen goods. Lightshow smirked, calmly, and aimed one of her bracers at him, lining up bottle rockets. She was fully focused on the rat, but now the wolf came up behind him.
The wolf shoved his rabbit hostage at her back, and was going to follow it up by rushing her. Even with a yelp from the rabbit, Lightshow didn’t even turn to look. She didn’t see any of what was coming, yet she stepped aside and let the rabbit pass her as he was thrown. The wolf ran up and swung a hammer at her, and she dodged that too. She laughed wildly and turned her gauntlet on the wolf. A small fiery dart shot at the wolf once, then another, and the wolf backed off.
“How did you do that?” The wolf shouted, keeping a hold of his hammer.
“I’m just that good.” Lightshow chuckled, holding her gauntlets close.
