So, I've taken an advice and decided to write my very first story!
I can't wait to see what you guys think! ^^
Azul was inside his treehouse, studying his arcane works and practicing his magic.
“Come on… How hard is it to cast a ball of light…?!” Azul muttered to himself, trying his best to concentrate.
As he concentrated, he could feel his magic beginning to form into a small ball of light…
“Yes! Finally!” Azul exclaimed excitedly, his furry tail wagging softly with accomplishment… Right before the orb began to flicker, now evaporating in the air.
“No!” Azul whined in disappointment, his head buried on his wooden desk with books and arcane diagrams drawn on papers. “If I can't cast a spell, I'll never get in the Arcane Academy!”
Azul looked through his bookshelf near his desk before picking his spellbook from his shelf. “There must be something I’m doing wrong…” Azul murmured to himself as he skimmed through the pages.
As soon as Azul got to the page about the spell he was casting simply called “Light”, a letter fell out of his spellbook.
“Huh? That's weird…” Azul looked at the letter that fell to the floor in his treehouse with curiosity and slight confusion. “I don't remember this letter being in my spellbook. Somebody must've snuck into my home and slipped it in my book…”
Azul grabbed the letter off from the floor and opened the envelope and with a burst of smoke, the folded paper levitated out of the envelope and unfolded and it read:
“Congratulations! You won a free ticket to Crimson and the Skulls’ concert!” Attached to the letter was a small ticket that was warm to the touch, at the left right corner of the ticket was a small letter saying “Also a backstage pass!”
Azul was slightly confused by the sudden invitation “Strange… I never listened to music. Why would I be getting a ticket to a concert all of the sudden?” Azul looked at the ticket with suspicion, his eyes narrowed and brow furrowed.
“... I'm sorry, but rock and roll is the root of all evil and I will have no part in this.” Azul huffed as he proceeded to throw away the ticket on a small wooden bin… But suddenly, he found himself hesitant to do so…
Why does he feel so compelled to go to the concert himself when he should be studying? There was a sudden sense of adrenaline in his veins as he clutched his ticket in his small paw.
“I…” Azul sighs in defeat “I suppose it wouldn't hurt to leave my home for a bit… I'm sure it'll be fun!”
“My studies can wait! I've got a concert to get to!” Azul then proceeded to put his book inside his bookshelf and rush out of his treehouse, leaving his studies forgotten.
As he strode on the path out of the forest and into the city, he stopped on the street before he realized… He doesn't know where he’s going.
“Er… I…” Azul gulps nervously as he took in the sights of the buildings, the towers of golden metal and white stones looming over the city, the carriages used for transportation, and the marketplaces.
It was completely crowded with people, elves, beastfolk and other various species, his body was wracked with panic and anxiety, his body trembling.
Azul attempted to make his way through the crowd, being pushed and shoved around until he was shoved out of the crowd. He got up from the concrete ground and dusted off his cloak.
“Clearly transportation is needed…” Azul thought out loud to himself, “Hold on, where does the concert take place?” Azul looked at the ticket.
“O-Oh… Er… Hellfire Amphitheatre…?” Azul read nervously, swallowing nervously, “I’m sure it'll be a fun place…!” Azul reassured himself nervously.
Azul looked around for any sort of transportation and saw a carriage with a tall skinny doe filing her hooves, leaning against the wood.
“Er… Excuse me, ma’am?” Azul asked
The doe lady turned her head, searching for the source of the voice.
“Down here, ma’am.” Azul pointed downwards, prompting the doe lady to look down.
“Could I get a ride t-” “Oh. My. God. You are so adorable!” *The doe lady exclaimed, picking Azul up underneath his arms.
“I… I beg your pardon?” Azul blushes slightly, his tail wagging slightly for a moment.
“Where are you headed, cutie? There's a grand library in Arborea-” “Actually… I want to head to the Hellfire Amphitheatre.” Azul spoke
“Woah! Oh nonononononono!” The doe lady wagged a finger in front of Azul's face, booping his nose at the end. “That is NOT a place for a small cute little fluffball like you.”
“The Hellfire Amphitheatre is held at the molten city of Kharon, that’s where all the demons live. I heard that one guy was hospitalized last year and another guy got a… “Private lesson” from the band’s lead singer, if you know what I mean.”
“But-” “I mean, if you're so insistent on heading to such a miserable wasteland, I could take you there. But it's going to cost extra.”
Azul quickly reached inside his satchel and got out fifteen gold coins. “Will this be enough?”
The doe lady looked at Azul with a slightly surprised expression. “I… I did not expect you to actually have the money but…”
Despite her hesitation, the doe lady took the gold coins from Azul's small paw. "Alright, climb on in, let's get this over with.” The doe lady said, her tone holding a slight nervous edge in her voice.
Azul stepped up into the carriage, the horses now beginning to pull the carriage, slowly picking up steady speed.
Azul stares out the window in awe and wonder, watching the buildings slowly shrink as the carriage drives on.
.
.
.
However, as the carriage began to part ways with the beautiful city, more of the… Less beautiful sights began to take view.
The gothic architecture began to take view in the distance, there were small cracks along the road and streets and mountainous volcanoes in a more further view.
“O-Oh dear…” Azul gulped nervously
The doe lady looked over at Azul from the driver's seat with slight concern. “I did warn you about this place.” She spoke with a slight stern edge.
The carriage began to slow down as they reached a skull-like structure, the red gas emitting from its “mouth”. This must be the Hellfire Amphitheatre…
As the carriage parked in front of the amphitheatre, Azul stepped out, his legs shaking at the intensity of it all…
The doe lady placed a reassuring hoof on Azul's shoulder, “Hey, if it makes you feel any better, you weren't the only person who asked for a ride to… This place.”
Azul tilted his head with intrigue at the revelation. “I wasn't? Who else was there?”
The doe lady shrugged her shoulders. “Some doberman got the same ticket to this same concert… Although…” She winced.
“What? What's the matter?”
“I’ve never seen him make it back after the concert… But, who knows?” The doe lady pats Azul on the shoulder. “Maybe you’ll emerge as a new man!”
She spoke cheerfully before entering her carriage and sitting in the driver's seat.
“Have fun!” The doe lady waved “I'll be waiting for you, okay?”
Azul nodded softly before taking a deep breath and approaching the skull-shaped amphitheatre…
As Azul made his way towards the amphitheatre, standing on the stage was Crimson, possibly the lead singer of his band.
“Well well well… We've got quite the crowd tonight!” Crimson exclaimed, holding the microphone to his muzzle.
Crimson eyed at Azul in the crowd, “And a rather cute one at that…” Crimson purred, winking at Azul, causing him to blush.
“Now then…” Crimson then proceeded to take a deep breath
“ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?!” Crimson shouted in the microphone, the air now crackling with energy as the crowd cheered, overwhelming Azul.
“W-Wait a second…! What's going on?” Azul stammered, now getting shoved and pushed around in the rowdy crowd.
As the heavy metal music began to play, the sound filled the night air with crackling energy… The guitar riffs, the fast-paced drums, and Crimson’s melodic yet harsh vocals. It was all drawing in the crowd as they swayed their bodies in synchronization.
“W-What sort of concert is this…?” Azul looked at the people with slight unease. “This is no ordinary concert…”
Azul looked at Crimson on the stage as he was singing.
“His vocals… His music…” Azul thought to himself. “Are they…?”
Azul looked up at someone standing next to him, a grey wolf wearing a Crimson and the Skulls band t-shirt, his eyes swirling black and yellow with a blissful smile as he sways his body in a dazed trance.
“Er… Hello?” Azul waved his paw in front of the wolf’s face… The wolf seemed too lost in the music to acknowledge Azul's presence.
“Oh dear… I have to put an end to this…!” Azul proclaimed quietly as he snuck away from the swaying crowd.
As Azul was sneaking, he felt a burly paw on his shoulder. “Where do you think you're going, little guy?” A deep voice asked sternly, hoisting Azul in the air by the nape of his neck.
“I-I’m sorry, sir!” Azul apologized. “I… I was trying to find a bathroom! I got lost and- Wait…”
Azul got a clear view, seeing that the someone who was holding him was a doberman wearing a rubber vest with Crimson’s band logo, the doberman was also wearing a skull mask. This must’ve been the doberman that the lady was talking about.
He seems to be the security guard…
“... And what?” The doberman asked, still keeping his stern expression.
As Azul opened his mouth to speak… “No. Nevermind. Crimson will know what to do with you.” The doberman held a paw up, carrying Azul away into the backstage.
Just in time, it seemed, the song ended and Crimson stepped through the black curtains and walked downstairs to the backstage.
“Woo! That was a hell of a show, huh?” Crimson walked over to the doberman, nudging him on the shoulder
“Oh? And who's this cutie you brought?” Crimson looked at Azul
“I… I am Azul… Azul Silversta-’ “Azul! Good to finally meet you!” Crimson exclaimed, shaking both of Azul's small paws in his large one.
“And what do you want me to do with him, sir?” The doberman asked, his expression kept unreadable beneath the skull mask.
Crimson thought for a second… “Hey little guy, you still have that backstage pass with you?”
“You mean this?” Azul grabbed the band ticket from his satchel.
“Yep, that's it!” Crimson snatched the band ticket from Azul's paw, turning to the doberman.
“So, Hatchet.” Crimson began.
“It's Ratchet, sir.” The doberman now known by “Ratchet” corrected Crimson.
“Eh, Hatchet’s better, but okay.” Crimson crossed his arms in slight annoyance. “Can you hand over the cute guy to me and guard my dressing room? I have… Business… To discuss with our guest..~” Crimson purred, brushing a finger across Azul's neck, his furry tail with the furry claw at the end brushing against Azul's leg.
“Yes, sir.” Ratchet nodded obediently, handing Azul over to Crimson, now headed towards Crimson’s dressing room.
“So… Azul, was it? How would you feel about becoming a part of the band?” Crimson inquired as he carried Azul to his dressing room.
“I'm sorry, what?” Azul asked, his fluffy tail swaying softly as he's carried in Crimson’s arms. “I… I’m flattered, sir… But I know nothing about music.” He explained, “I can't even play the flute!”
Crimson chuckled softly. “Don't worry, Azul. I'll teach you.” Crimson offered “But first off, don't call me “sir”. This isn't exactly the place for formalities.”
“Oh… Sorry, er… Crimson.” Azul apologized.
“And don't apologize either! Especially not over something so small!” Crimson advised
“S-Sorr-” Azul stopped himself, his body shaking nervously.
Crimson sighs softly. “Oh God… This is going to be a long lesson.”
Crimson entered his dressing room, setting Azul atop the stool with a leathery cushion.
“So… Er… When do we begin?” Azul asked
“Now!” Crimson exclaimed, pulling a guitar from the closet and giving it to Azul.
“W-What?! I-I already told you, I don't know anything about music!” Azul stammered nervously
“C'mon Azul!” Crimson encouraged, “Everyone's got a hidden talent!”
Azul gulped nervously, “Er… O-Okay…”
As Azul adjusted his grip around the guitar, resting the body of the guitar in his lap before strumming a chord hesitantly. The air crackled with energy as the melodic chord emitted from the guitar strings, his eyes widening in awe.
“... Wow.” Azul whispered.
“Pretty badass, right?” Crimson draped an arm around Azul's shoulders.
“Is… Is this magic?” Azul looked up at Crimson.
“Hell yeah!” Crimson affirmed, “Not just any mage magic, no… This magic is different.”
“Our species are able to hone our magic based on music. It doesn't matter if you're talented or not! Anybody can play music!” Crimson explained, “So go ahead, play it again!”
Azul strummed another chord, this time, he could feel the music resonating in his bones, causing vibrations to spread out through his body.
“Good. Now, keep playing…” Crimson encouraged soothingly
Azul strummed another melodic chord, now proceeding to play a riff on the guitar.
“I… I didn't realize I had that talent…” Azul watched in awe as his fingers began to move on their own, now creating a new riff that vibrates throughout his entire form.
“That's it, Azul…” Crimson cooed gently, “Keep playing, feel the vibrations through your body as you play.”
Azul’s fingers began to move on their own, his eyes growing heavy as the music not only resonated in his body, but in his mind too…
“That's it… Just let yourself drift.” Crimson coaxed Azul into a deep trance-like state, now gently taking the guitar from his hands as he continued playing the same melodic chord.
“Open.” Crimson commanded.
Azul’s eyes began to slowly open, now swirling black and yellow with a blissful smile.
“Good boy…” Crimson praised softly, “And now…”
Crimson reached inside the closet with his tail claw, still playing the guitar, keeping Azul in the hypnotized state. Crimson’s tail claw pulled a mask, shaped like a kobold's skull.
“Sink.” Crimson commanded as he placed the mask on Azul's face, the mask molding snugly around his face. “And become…~”
As the mask was placed upon Azul's face, the red energy began to crackle around him, his clothes transforming into blackened tatters, his satchel becoming a coffin-like purse, and his tunic becoming the same rubber vest with Crimson’s logo on it. His transformation was complete.
Azul, now dazed throughout the hypnosis and the transformation, nearly slipped off the stool. Luckily, Crimson caught him in his arms before he could collapse.
“Shhhh… Get some sleep, little one…” Crimson coaxed gently, petting the back of Azul's head. His eyes slowly closed.
Crimson smiles softly, kissing Azul's forehead, his tail winding around Azul’s small body slowly, the tail claw resting at the back of Azul's head, the soft fur and paw acting as a pillow.
“Rest now, little one…”
“We got a big day tomorrow~”
