I admit, I had the idea that Gerv simply let go of his past, and that is why Cobby appears in the dungeons as the embodiment of the chimera's cleansed conscience, meaning that our hero forgave himself. But because both wolves are communicating, I got the impression that Gervic is seeing a ghost. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
Air pockets can form underwater all the time, mostly due to gas or volcanic activity. Could be that Gharn used his artifact powers to prepare this little area, too.
Gharn mentioning Gus's similarity to Cobby is something that I've always wondered about, but never really was confirmed. This makes a lot more sense.
