Somewhere in Eastern Europe, there's a major research complex on the outskirts of where Cosmin lives, and that's where he works in. While the work from there is multidisciplinary and he has both offices there and in South America, they occasionaly require Sneakernet transfers of large lab data around research institutes. Cosmin's duties other than research and teaching involves being sent to negotiate contracts or do heavy data transfer work that needs to help of other companies outside of the country.

In Japan, the City Infrastructure Maintenance Agency offered to help on this work, inviting Cosmin for a tour and to help do a 500 PB transfer. Oh look, there's Haruka and Sera!
