Done for an art game on Discord. Took another crack at gradient maps on the character, pretty pleased honestly. I feel like this lines up with my approach to lighting better, and it's more forgiving if I find some values to be wrong after I add color. Definitely wanna use them more.

i love the colour palette here, the composition flows well from left to right and spirals through the monster into the ship which sets the scale, and the squared off brush strokes in the BG set it apart- truly excellent work <3

I really appreciate the thoughtful and detailed compliment, thank you! I've been really inspired by monster art that emphasizes the sheer scale of the creature with context clues like composition and objects with established size. I'm really trying to make the art that I would have loved as a kid. :3
