Yes, I watched an American documentary from that time. They dragged captured Japanese planes onto the street for display, and there were signs indicating the American names for the planes (for example, they called the Japanese Type 97 torpedo attack aircraft Kate). The sign for this MXY-7 read Baka Boom, and Baka means idiot in Japanese.
