A friend inspired me to rewrite Gertie’s story a bit, tying her closer to the events of the classic-era Fallout titles… she’d leave her vault and get dipped in FEV during the events of FO1, spend the next few decades as a wandering adventurer type, and eventually settle down and join the NCR’s diplomatic service sometime between FO2 and New Vegas!
(Side note - considering that she’d be nearly 140 years old by the time of FNV, I guess she’s kind of a GILF now?)

I’m thinking she was probably the daughter of her vault’s overseer or someone of similar importance, and had the kind of comfortable, sheltered upbringing you’d expect - sending her to the surface as a scout probably wasn’t a very smart idea, because while she’s polite and well-educated, her survival skills were rather… lacking.
She’s not fond of them, to say the least! Both on general principle as an NCR citizen, and for the fact that they keep sending assassins after her! Given that she’s one of the few Super Mutants serving in the NCR’s civilian government as of 2281, she’s a high-profile (and very large) target!
