I haven’t a great deal to say about this piece, other than it stems from a bit of old cultural wisdom that the amount of true, life-long friends that most of us can expect to make (much less maintain) throughout our lives actually tends to wind up being a far smaller number than we realise.

recently, I went looking for someone I used to know. I found pictures and I found a description of the class he was doing, and even the place where he'd been working, but nothing else. Though I didn't know him all that well, it left a hollow feeling inside my chest. That's life I guess.
