Oh, what a way to start the year, huh?
Well, yesterday I had another art to post, but with everything that's happened, I've been on Twitter for a looong while, but I finally did this quick drawing last night.
My art page isn't usually a space for political discussion. Aside from what I usually repost on Twitter, I don't usually give my opinion since no one is asking me. But I could use this post to say a few things. The people who aren't Venezuelan and haven't lived in Venezuela, who are on social media angry and giving moral lectures from their comfortable ignorance—ignoring, of course, all the context and years of previous experiences that led to this—seem to me, very hypocritical. And I detest hypocrisy. Oh, and I'm not saying anyone should be happy about this either. No one is celebrating yet. No one here is naive, and everyone is fully aware of who Trumpetas is and what his intentions are. I've lived here my whole life. The dictatorship has been here since before I was born, and it's all I've known since. Hundreds have died, thousands were sent to torture centers, and millions had to leave their country—people of all ages—all for disagreeing with an undemocratic government that tramples on every human right. So, certainly, we can all agree that Trump is scum; absolutely no one denies that. But before you judge a Venezuelan for feeling some relief that their country is being invaded rather than having their human rights trampled on, I invite you to do a little research on why one option is less bad than the other. If upholding your so-called political ideology is more important than the human rights you swear you care about, I don't know, I think maybe you don't care about them as much as you think...
I'm sorry but I'm not sorry, I needed to vent about this. A lot has happened lately and I wanted to clarify a few things. I don't have all the answers and nobody does, but I felt it was appropriate to share my opinion from a first-person perspective given the circumstances.

They're more interested in twisting it to fit their political discourse than in the substance of that discourse. I want to believe it's simple ignorance and a lack of information on the theme, but some people are just being deliberately mean-
Ahh thank you so much! <33

I have been very interested in the situation since I’ve seen a plethora of reactions, though it seems mostly to be apprehension- but thankful apprehension? I really hope things work out for Venezuela and that your country is able to have an absolute democracy rather than falling into corruption once again! Genuinely, well wishes from the USA. I hope we don’t mess this up somehow, knowing who our leader is at the moment… a broken clock is right twice a day, huh?
Side note your art is very cute! 💙 The tiger in this picture looks adorable. What a cute style.

In the eyes of many Americans, Venezuela just started existing this week, and they've already fabricated the image that the average Venezuelan is a Maduro loving communist demanding his return (this is the fantasy about all people with brown skin anywhere on earth, "they're on our side because they're all the same").
I apologize for the wilful ignorance of the people in my country. It's not hard to browse through social media profiles and use a translator, that's why the ignorance is wilful.
