Recently discovered by a traveling Pokemon Trainer, Mt. Lanakila hides small groups of Cubchoo and Beartic. Hidden in the dark caves and tunnels of the snowy mountain, these variants are much shier and prone to fleeing from intruders. However, if cornerned, Alolan Beartic will viciously defend their families by swiping with icy claws and charging with the thick point of dark crystal on their head. Their Ice/Dark typing makes them even weaker to Fighting-Type Moves, but they are slightly more defensive. Their abilities also give them more opportunity to avoid being hit despite their bulk, giving them a fighting chance.
Alolan Beartic also produce a thick, cold smoke from pores in the dark armor on their torso, which they use to create a shroud. It can disperse this smoke to confuse and freeze enemies, allowing them to get away.
Alolan Beartic learn the move Throat Chop at Level 39, giving them access to a Dark-Type move shortly after evolution. If caught by a Trainer, Alolan Beartic have a much more demure temperament outside of battle. They are somewhat sensitive to sunlight, but have much better heat tolerances. Their oddly humanoid feet have a thick pad that can grip onto the smallest imperfections of ice, preventing them from slipping.
