Here is another alcohol lamp that I have made. It is a much larger version of a previous lamp I had made in the past. The body of this lamp is a repurposed 16 oz. can that I have outfitted with a lamp and wick.
The head of the lamp is made from 18 gauge sheet copper that I had made into a tube which was brazed down the seam in a forge. The rest of the accompanying parts were soldered on and riveted to the unscrewable lid.
This lamp is currently incomplete and needs a lid. The viewer may notice a little hoop ended strut that protrudes from the side, that is where the chain will be attached and extending from it will be the cap. The purpose of the cap is to keep the alcohol evaporating from the wick.
I could not make the cap for this tool, I had run out of sheet metal and need to get more.
The purpose of this lamp is to be able to heat things hotter and perhaps faster than the oil lamp that was seen in the previous post, this lamp is multi purpose as well as it is meant to also allow me to heat up and solder copper parts similarly to how I made them with the old alcohol lamp.
The heat of this flame is enough to melt 60/40 solder and wet the surface of the copper with solder in a process called "Tinning" this lamp can also be used to heat up solder scraps into a molten state so I may reuse them.
