Piano Solo: Nightwalk (WOF Shopping Cue)
This is my piano arrangement of the song "Nightwalk," one of the late but Merv Griffin's many wonderful compositions written for his crown jewel contribution to show biz, America's Game, Wheel of Fortune, which turns 51 years old on Jan. 6, 2026. Today, the show just builds a cash bank, but once upon a time, players who solved a puzzle spent their winnings on prizes. (The shopping element was Merv doing a favor to Lin Bolen, who was then the head of NBC daytime.) Shopping remained on the daytime show from its inception in 1975 to its first NBC ending in 1989, while on the nighttime show, it ran from 1983 (the beginning of that) until 1987, when the decision was made to eliminate the shopping element and just have players build a cash bank.
"Nightwalk" is the song you heard while the shopping was taking place.
