Today was rattie bath day so into the sink they all went. As you can see, mister Derp does not look so fat and budda like when he is wet. This is another one of his famous "Why must you torture me so" looks.
Those of you who wonder the details of my rat bathing, I fill a sink with warm water (rats have a higher body temp than people and so the water needs to be slightly warmer than you'd use for yourself) and use baby shampoo. I don't have the water actually running while I bathe them in the sink and do my best not to get their heads wet as water in the ears can potentially cause an infection. I also make sure they are kept warm after they come out of the water so they won't catch a chill. Bathing them clears off grime and dirt that they can't remove via normal grooming and helps any scratches and cuts they might have from normal tumbling heal without infection.
Thus ends my "don't tell me how to take care of my pets" disclaimer.
They get lots of love and treats afterwards and they smell a lot nicer too.

Oh lordy loo, that face! Makes me miss my ratties.
I've never tried bathing my rats. (Goodness, the little goobers need it every one in a while.) I was too afraid I wouldn't make the water cold enough or they would get away and I'd have a slippery rat scampering about the bathroom.
If I ever have another rat, I'll do what you said.
I'm not trying it on my hamster though. He hates my guts.
GAAAH, THAT FACE. SO CUTE.
