Not depicted, John not being allowed to use his chair instead of those crutches when accepting that award because Moirium determined it would make for worse optics since people think of crutches as temporary.

John does not look happy in that picture with the Moirium spokesperson, AT All. And Jesus Christ, I had a feeling that there would be negative side effects from the treatment (both the medicine he was taking and from the operation) but I didn’t think he would end up in a wheelchair with a drastically shortened life span, also the AHS is especially concerning because of the plague’s capabilities and MO.
For what it's worth, he's not completely chairbound, but the reduction in fine motor control and some of the pain from the neurological damage makes walking much harder, especially on his bad days, so it's easier and more comfortable to default to a chair.
And yeah, autoimmune stuff can get really nasty with an infection that tends to mimic host cells.

Indeed, doesn’t make things any better though. And let’s see here as I tally up the lifelong injuries and health problems John has accumulated over the course of SiS, both hands have suffered puncture wounds and hence the probability of nerve damage, damage to various organs such as the liver due to antibiotic overuse (however necessary), the aforementioned issues listed above in the page, and while not a issue related to health but still bears mentioning nonetheless, the haunting sense of dread from making a deal with the devil (maybe literally considering how the Moirium spokesperson looks) and the potentially of losing the only friends he had left was a result of said deal.
To be honest if I was in John’s predicament I would have rather gone zombie, enhanced healing via cellular regeneration at the cost of what being a zombie entails is a fair trade off in comparison. And I’m not normally a zombie advocate.

That's sort of what the part about keeping her family in the public eye is about. Bee's counting on how bad it will look if she vanishes during the court case, especially since the GCC court is part of a super delicate balance between the signees. If she, or her family disappear mid case the neighboring corps will likely see it as a sign that Moirium is closer to a dangerous crime family than to a proper business and they'll start hemorrhaging money s their neighbors begin swarming in hoping to consume them. It's a gamble, but as she'd point out it's a gamble on the other companies being greedy, paranoid, and predatory which is a pretty good bet on her side.
