It's when Cookie felt the most freedom. As I mentioned in previous posts, he used to hang with Rouge (who acted like his older sister) and anti-Sonic when he was still just a rapscallion, getting into trouble in Mobius. They had a lovehate frenemy situation, both driven by their egos. Although most of their interactions were very transactional, they had some sense of stability, understanding of each other. There wasn't anything to judge because they were both just as bad and they knew it.
While Cookie wasn't as fast as him, he usually outmatched him with his wits and quick logical thinking. Anti-Sonic got ragebaited a lot and Cookie knew how to push his buttons to get the desired outcome. It wasn't all sunshine and flowers for the hyena though, as he wasn't immune to it either. The difference was Anti-Sonic didn't really have a bigger picture in mind other than getting entertained by Cookie's stoicism finally cracking.
And even though it'd seem their arguments should've outweighed the positives, the only thing that was a requirement in their partnership was to stick to their shared goals, together. Some sense of belonging and loyalty had formed between the two, even if neither would've outwardly admit to it.
Cookie is a really patient and open-minded guy who really yearns for a connection but doesn't want the commitment weighing him down. Anti-Sonic's constant presence was reassuring, and their rivalry added some spice to his life. Although he wasn't sure if the hedgehog fully reciprocated this notion due to his mixed signals of words against actions, there seemed to be a mutual agreement of wanting to work "with" each other, and that was enough.
…Unfortunately, patience and understanding has it's limits, and being burned is not something Cookie takes lightly.
Also, Cookie calls anti-Sonic just Sonic since where Cookie comes from there wasn't any heroes and no Robotnik to take care of. He might've heard of the guy (obviously hearing about him from anti-Sonic, in a not so pleasant light) but he never met him. Cookie sees heroes as a fluke, people that still wanna gain something from others by doing the good thing. By introducing himself as Sonic without the anti part he establishes himself as the real (or even better) thing, which Cookie doesn't question, simply because he doesn't care.
