The dog biscuit cookies I'd made for the last few Furry Fiestas in Texas. They're bland little nutmeg-sugar cookies, but they're durable and keep well at room temperature.
One problem I've noticed is that every time I give one to a fox, they take two bites and then it's suddenly obscene. I think it's just the foxes that do this.

I love butter cookies too! They're rich and good crowd pleasers. But they don't keep well and tend to be kind of soft--I spent this entire con with a napsack filled with cookies that I was handing out, so they had to be durable and non-perishable.
The topping is turbinado--unrefined--sugar. Since it's kind of a blond-brown sugar, it kept with the dog biscuit color.
