Like I said in Redrum's comments, I believe there's something weird in Rare Candies that make a Pokemon a little... off.

Poor Spike has only had one and is spazzing out, Mischief has had a whole dang pile of them and Arceus only knows what he's seeing right now. Hikaru had the first one forced onto him by Spike and is laughing at Spike's reaction to the Rare Candy.

If it wasn't for the Rare Candy's effect, Hikaru would not be laughing. as you can see, Rare Candies are dangerous for young children.
