As mentioned, my partner has been getting me into Transformers. It's really fun, and have watched and read a bunch of things now, but Transformers Prime is so far... not my favourite :>

Transformers as a whole is like that. G1 (the original series from the '80s) had it where the Autobots could fly in the first episode, then suddenly they couldn't and it was never explained why. There's an official explanation of course, the creators wanted more of a difference between them and the Decepticons, so aside from having 90% of the Autobots be ground-based vehicles, they also changed it to where they didn't fly. But there was no in-universe explanation.
You just have to 'roll' with it.

Right, but I can accept problems with G1, it was the first, and basically just a toy commercial. I have slightly higher standards for something made in 2010 though, particularly as Prime's following up Animated, which I think is both more mature and well written despite it's toony appearance
I don't think Prime is the worst written show or anything, but it wastes its potential with its refusal to alter the status quo

Same here. Then again, I grew up with them, so I'm used to the inconsistencies. xD
And I liked Prime, even with it's formulaic approach. It was something different at the time (combining both Animated, G1 and movie stuff) so even with its eccentricities it was a good show. Bit I kinda agree with the wasted potential bit, Beast Wars imo did more potential-wise.
