A gift for a friend who I love very much <3 Paleopanthera
A second version of this piece with the poem is on my bsky account here.
There is a Tiger, small and grey.
Who has a Dog that helps every day.
Each step was followed by four,
Best of friends who ever endured.
And day, and night, and in-between;
The Dog and Tiger learned to lean.
Shoulder to shoulder, uphill and down.
Tiger and Dog had no bounds.
As time passed on and seasons changed,
Dog began to wane with age.
Though his eyes and heart were bright, he
Could not avoid the mortal plight.
For man and beast must meet an end, and
The Tiger must say goodbye to their friend.
The Dog and Tiger spent their days, playing,
Sharing memories, and wondrous ways.
But it came time for Dog to pass on, and Tiger was heartbroken.
Dog was gone.
Dog was cold in earthen form, but beams of sunlight
kept memories warm. Where Dog had grown
and played with Tiger. Times untouched, ever admired.
Tiger grieved, cried, and sobbed. But Dog would
make sure Tiger could carry on.
And so, with spirit from his grave, he pushed
up limbs and dark bluish stains. For what came up
was something sustained by memories of good times.
And Tiger’s nicknames.
Tiger sat in mourning still, tears upon Dog’s grave hill.
But when Tiger looked up a smile grew.
The skies, not grey; but berry blue.
As Dog’s familiar smile shown in the light,
And Tiger sat under the blueberry bush’s sight.
Just as Dog was sweet and bright,
Tiger could openly see the light.
Seasons would come, times would pass;
But one uncertainty would never last..
Dog was gone from the world around,
But his spirit stayed with Tiger with limits
Unbound.
Dog and Tiger would always be friends,
for the love of a service dog never ends.
